A Bit About Me
Jasmine Guarin is a graduate student in the Integrated MS–RDN track in Nutrition Education at
Teachers College, Columbia University, where she is completing over 1,000 supervised practice
hours across community, clinical, and foodservice settings. She earned her Bachelor of Science
in Nutritional Sciences from Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology, where she
developed a strong foundation in nutrition education, research, and community-engaged
practice.
Born and raised in Toms River, New Jersey, Jasmine developed an early passion for mentoring
youth and addressing inequities within her community. While attending Toms River High School
South, she founded the first Community Ambassadors Club, creating a safe and empowering
space for underrepresented students to engage in leadership, volunteerism, and advocacy.
What began as a small, student-led initiative evolved into a statewide movement focused on
combating hate and discrimination, improving access to healthcare and nutrition, and
strengthening trust between communities and institutions.
As a cofounder and long-standing leader of Community Ambassadors, Jasmine has coordinated
impactful community programs, including Ocean County’s first free “Community Nutrition
Initiative" bilingual health fairs for uninsured and underinsured families, and youth leadership
conferences. Through this work, she has collaborated with local health departments, federally
qualified health centers, food banks, law enforcement agencies, and community-based
organizations to deliver culturally responsive education, health screenings, and essential
resources. Her leadership, research, and civic engagement have been recognized through
multiple awards and competitive grants.
These formative experiences have directly shaped Jasmine’s academic and professional
trajectory. Her work centers on culturally responsive nutrition education, health equity, and
community partnership. She has served as a teaching assistant and researcher at Cornell
University, contributed to federally funded youth nutrition programs, and currently works as a
Foodservice and Nutrition ESL Instructor developing bilingual curricula for adult learners. As
Director of Health and Nutrition Services for Community Ambassadors, Jasmine remains deeply
committed to using nutrition education as a tool for empowerment, mentorship, and sustainable
community change.
